Hyejin stepped into the forest, glancing up at the overcast sky. The beam of her flashlight barely illuminated five steps ahead, struggling to capture the light that seemed on the verge of pouring down. Each exhale released a plume of white steam into the air, showing her lonely breaths. Only the faint warmth of distant memories grazed her body. She finally reached an old shrine. The wooden pillars twisted under the weight of time, and the fading nine tails of the gumiho painted on the eaves still formed a clear shape. The silence of the forest was profound, with the sound of dry leaves crunching underfoot filling the space like a monologue.

As she glanced around the shrine, an unexpected scent enveloped her. It was sweet yet reminiscent of rotting apricots, teasing her tongue and stimulating her nose. It felt like an alluring temptation, yet a sense of discomfort seeped in. Faint whispers began to echo through the woods. The sounds, formed in an unknown language, brushed against her nerves, teetering on the brink of being understood. The surrounding darkness thickened. She had no idea that both her shadow and her reflection in the puddle on the screen were moving independently. The eyes, hungry as if they had been starved, sparkled from within them.
